The Cockpit Replica Project

There's not one single Stirling preserved in the world, still is searched for a wreck in good condition. This cockpit is a full size replica with original Stirling instruments and custom made panels and fuselage.

There are several stories about how this project started, various media made mistakes in their text and journalists made up their own story, here follows the real story:

I started to build the cockpit in 1992, the drawings i made myself by measuring photo's and comparing them with real cockpit instruments, that's how i got the original sizes and with some help of rare Stirling manuals. Then the panels and fuselage were made from wood, all instruments are original. In 2004 the cockpit moved to the museum of the ARG in the Netherlands where it will be on permanent exhibition.

When ready all instruments will be in working order as far as possible, if you have any parts, instruments, drawings etc which might be of help they would be very welcome. For a detailed list of needed parts see the Wanted page.

As you can see, some parts are still under construction, like the window panels.

The cockpit is now placed in the Museum of the Aircraft Recovery Group 40-45, which is located in Heemskerk (Holland). It's now being rebuilt and extended with the Flight Engineers and Wireless Operators sections
